Sunday morning worship is held in the Sanctuary at 10:30 a.m. Communion is celebrated regularly. The harmonies of our Senior Choir, which includes professional soloists, are enhanced by the music of a Casavant organ and grand piano. From time to time, the mix is varied with guest preachers and visiting musical groups ranging from bell choirs to folk-rock ensembles.
Our church welcomes children of all ages. Youngsters experience worship with their families in the Sanctuary and then enjoy a special greeting and children's time with the minister at the front of the church before heading off to Sunday school with their teachers. A nursery staffed by a well-qualified babysitter is available for infants and toddlers. The teen Youth Group often participates in services, greeting worshippers and reading Scripture.
There are eagerly anticipated special services throughout the year. These include the annual Christmas Pageant, a Christmas Carol Service by our choir in early December, the Candlelight Family Service on Christmas Eve and the Easter Service, featuring such works as the Requiem by Faure. Members of the congregation act as ushers, read Scripture, receive the offering, and beautify the Sanctuary with banners, flowers and other festive and seasonal decorations. Every Sunday following the worship service, there are refreshments and fellowship for everyone in the hall beside the sanctuary. |
Circle of Prayer & Song | |
The first of our alternative worship services this year featured
Celtic hymns and prayers. Joining in the service was a special guest, the
Rev'd Darryl Macdonald from the Christ Church-Two Mountains Pastoral Charge. Jazz Vespers with the Solar Jazz Trio of Michel Gauthier on piano, Karine Chapdelaine on double-bass and Pierre Dubois on drums. Along with spiritual readings and hymns sung by all, the trio aims to provide a unique path to reflection through their music, which draws influence from the great Bill Evans and Keith Jarrett trios. The Songs and Prayers of Taizé, originated by the ecumenical, monastic order in Taizé, France, this worship blends scriptural chants, silent contemplation and simple melodies into a continuous meditative prayer that becomes a way of listening to God within ourselves. Trio Amaryllis brings the haunting melodies of Christmas songs from the Medieval and Renaissance periods to a twilight service on the first Sunday in Advent in our Sanctuary. With voice, guitar, recorders and percussion, they take us to another age for an age-old celebration. The synoptic Gospels place Jesus ministry and passion in the context of the Passover and its Seder Meal. We explore the history and practice of the Passover Seder as it is practiced in the ancient and modern Jewish Communities, and discover the meaning it holds for us in the Christian Community. We begin with a brief time of song and prayer in the Sanctuary at 4pm, and move to the Parlour to taste some of the traditions of the Seder Meal for ourselves. Part of MRUC's Circle of Prayer and Song, The People's Gospel Choir of Montreal says: Why do we sing? We sing because we're happy. There is a certain joy in good music unparalleled to any other form simply because of its inspirational message… Performing for you allows us to push ourselves beyond the limits, to let you in on the fun we experience when we sing, and to share our enthusiasm for the gospel. |
