Lenten Bible Study
The Bible says:
"As the rain and the
snow come down from heaven, and do not return there until they have watered the
earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to
the eater,
so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me
empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose,
and succeed in the thing for which I sent it." (Isaiah 55:10-11)
So how do we get at the Bible's Message?
Join us for the conclusion of
our Lenten Bible Study as we explore ways we interpret scripture in honest,
helpful and spiritually beneficial ways.
Wednesday, April 10 at 7 pm.

FUNDSCRIP
It's time to start planning
for your Fundscrip card purchases!
Today is order day. The goal for April's orders is at least $148
in benefit to Mount Royal United Church, or approximately $4,935 in card
purchases from all orders from Mount Royal United Church. March's Fundscrip card orders yielded $126.75, for a total benefit
to Mount Royal United Church so far in 2013 of $341.15 toward our goal of
$1,500 from Fundscrip for 2013.
Fundscrip cards are easy, convenient ways to support Mount
Royal United Church while making routine purchases for groceries, gasoline, department store
purchases, entertainment, restaurants and much more! They are also a convenient way to send little
a "thank you" or help out family and friends. No order is too small!
You can order a single card for as little as $10, or as much as you wish with
card denominations typically ranging from $25 to $100, with some retailers
having $250 and $500 denominations as well.
If you find that you are often forgetting your chequebook,
there is an easy and convenient way to order your cards every month using your
computer on the internet -- there are automatic reminders, and a way to
automatically debit your bank account without service charges! Please speak
with Donald Buchan for more information.

TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION EVENT - April 24-27
HOW YOU CAN HELP
ATTEND THE EVENT. It is free
and open to everyone. You may attend all or part of the event. It is important that
non-aboriginal people both learn about and receive/support the school
survivors. We can't have "right
relations" without having "relations". If you can't attend you can watch the live
stream at http://www.trc-cvr.ca/.
A fund has been set up by Montreal and Ottawa Conference.
Donations will be used to help bringing Aboriginal youth to the Education Day
(April 24), for Aboriginal volunteers and for Residential School survivors who
cannot afford the expenses of the event and might not be able to attend. Make cheques payable to Montreal & Ottawa
Conference (attn. TRC Event) and mail to 225 - 50th Ave., Lachine, QC, H8T
2T7. Tax receipts will be provided for
donations of $20 and more.
BE A VOLUNTEER - The Truth and Reconciliation Commission is looking
for volunteers to help with such things as: Survivor registration, Event
Registration, Elder Services, Information
Services. The volunteer form can be
accessed on the Montreal Presbytery Web site under Right Relations: Truth &
Reconciliation. It can be filled out
online or print out the Word version and send by e-mail or fax.
IMPORTANT: send a copy of the
1st page to: Montreal Presbytery by using the link for Administrative
Assistant: Monique Harris on the Contact Us portion of this site.
CUPCAKES! When the survivors were in the schools, their
birthdays were never celebrated; in fact they were not called by their name but
by a number. To honour the missed birthdays, cupcakes
are presented to survivors during The Truth and Reconciliation Gathering. This
has been a moving celebration at other events. So congregations are being asked
to bake some cupcakes. We are happy to
report that the MRUC Sunday School is making birthday cards to accompany them. You can get a copy of the Chocolate Cupcake
recipe from the office or request one by e-mail (mruc514@gmail.com). Use this recipe to ensure uniformity and to
avoid allergies.
They must be delivered to
1110 Rue Mansfield, Montréal. (Mary Queen of the World Cathedral) the morning
of Saturday April 27th.
Please let the office know how many cupcakes you will be making 514-739-7741.
